GAMESTOP GOES NASCAR

GameStop to Join Joey Logano in First Career NASCAR Nationwide Series Start

GameStop announced this past weekend a new partnership with Joe Gibbs Racing and Joey Logano, an 18 year-old racing phenom. The Company will sponsor Logano in his NASCAR Nationwide Series debut May 31 at Dover (Del.) International Speedway. In addition, we will continue to serve as his primary sponsor on the No. 20 Toyota Camry during the series’ next race June 7 at Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway and again Sept. 7 at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway while providing associate sponsorship for the remainder of Logano’s 18-race Nationwide Series schedule.

“I can’t wait to get to Dover,” said Logano, who clinched the 2007 NASCAR Camping World Series East championship at Dover last September. “I’ve been doing a lot of testing and racing here and there, but it will be good to get back in the groove of racing on a regular basis. The Nationwide Series is the next step, and I’m proud to take that step with Joe Gibbs Racing and GameStop.”

Logano has rocketed up the racing ladder since competing in quarter-midgets at age six. His rapid climb toward a career in NASCAR got a boost when Joe Gibbs Racing signed the youngster to its driver development program in 2005. Just days after turning 15, Logano made his debut in the Hooters Pro Cup Series. Less than a month later on June 11, Logano scored his first Hooters Pro Cup win at Mansfield (Ohio) Motorsports Speedway.

Logano’s most recent triumph came May 4 at Rockingham (N.C.) Speedway, where he won his first career ARCA/REMAX Series race in dominant fashion by winning the pole and then leading five times for a race-high 257 laps in the 312-lap Carolina 500.

Below is a witty news peg from gamming site joystiq.com on the new relationship:
Fans of high speed circular driving and pre-owned video games will be pleased to see a familiar sight at the NASCAR Nationwide Series at the Dover International Speedway on May 31 -- a Gamestop sponsored stock car, driven by the fresh faced Joey Logano <http://www.racingone.com/article.aspx?artnum=42657>.
Gamestop debuted the young driver to the racing world by celebrating Logano's eighteenth birthday (the required age for NASCAR drivers), and presented the new adult with an Xbox 360 and an advance copy of NASCAR '09 (for training purposes, we assume).

We don't anticipate Logano to set any records at his debut race -- apparently, his pit crew has been instructed to ask if he'd like to exchange his old tires for trade-in credit at every stop, then ask if he wants the one-year warranties on his new tires, and finally, if he'd like to reserve additional tires for any upcoming pit stops.
