Welcome! This site was created as a meeting place for folks who formerly worked for a certain leading videogame retailer, to allow us to keep in touch as the company is dismantled and we drift apart. This is a team blog, with membership open to all former associates. If you'd like to join, please leave a comment with your name and email address. Although I started this blog, it will be up to you to keep it going. Write whatever you like, but use it to communicate with your friends, not to berate the company or any individuals therein. Thanks!

Christmas brings out the best in some....

Excerpt from an e-mail message written by Darron Smith, District Manager, South Regions, on December 20, 2007:

A regular customer, Joy Simpson, was waiting as she had for the last couple of weeks for a Wii. She bought the last one. As she was leaving a little boy who was wearing a surgical mask and losing his hair asked the GA if they had any Wiis and he said just ran out- the women walked over to the boy and his father and without saying a word, gave them the Wii she just bought. Did not ask for any money- just gave it and walked out.

Within the twenty-four hours following Darron's message, Store Ops and PR collected gift cards for Mrs. Simpson. Below is an excerpt from Darron's e-mail message following the interaction with Ms. Simpson:

I have been in retail 25 years and have never seen something like this. I got the gift cards in and we called Mrs. Simpson to come into the store and told her that we had something for her. She (Ms. Simpson) brought in brownies for the store. We talked to her about the incredible deed she did, and how impressed GameStop was with what she did that we wanted to show her our appreciation with $250.00 in gift cards. She broke down. Apparently last year she lost her 18 year old daughter in an accident and has one child left- that is who she bought the Wii for.

She then instructed us to take $100 of the Gift Cards and give them to the little boy to use on games. To all of you I say thank you- it is great to know that the Christmas season does bring out the best in people.

Baby Shower for Dottie & Winston

After two weeks of planning, sneaking around, out and out lying, and just plain making myself crazy....Dottie & Winston's surprise baby shower is over. AND they were BOTH surprised! WHEW! Everyone did a great job in keeping it quiet. They got a whole lot of stuff and a good bit of it were items Dottie had wanted to make sure she had before the baby came home. Yay.
