Welcome! This site was created as a meeting place for folks who formerly worked for a certain leading videogame retailer, to allow us to keep in touch as the company is dismantled and we drift apart. This is a team blog, with membership open to all former associates. If you'd like to join, please leave a comment with your name and email address. Although I started this blog, it will be up to you to keep it going. Write whatever you like, but use it to communicate with your friends, not to berate the company or any individuals therein. CAFFEINATION

Grand Opening Slated for November 8, 2008

Philadelphia, PA, October 20, 2008

-- Mitchell Cohen, former Vice President of EB Games for more than 15 years, has adapted his superior business aptitude to the remodeling of the coffee shop concept. A graduate of the American Barista and Coffee School of Portland, OR, Mr. Cohen understands every intricate detail of running a coffee outlet, and he also knows how to brew an amazing cup of coffee! After scouring the globe for the perfect roast, Mr. Cohen selected Yirgacheffe, a single varietal from Ethiopia, as the taste his customers can most enjoy. This award-winning coffee, supplied by Morning Star Coffee Roasters in West Chester, PA, was featured in Coffee Review where it scored an astounding 91 points for its "balanced, sweet, deeply dimensioned integration of rounded acidy notes, crisp roastiness and a lush, apricot-toned fruit." From this roast, Caffeination will offer a full line of espresso drinks, including a seductive "candy bar latte" comprised of chocolate and caramel, as well of cold drinks including espresso drinks with real ice cream. Continuing his cutting-edge theme, for tea drinkers he is offering the stylish new Red Tea Espresso. As the world's first tea espresso, Red Espresso won Best New Product at the Specialty Coffee Association of America's 20th Annual Conference and Exhibition held in Minneapolis from May 2-5, 2008, the world's largest coffee show.

Expanding beyond the typical coffee shop model, Mr. Cohen is emphasizing the theme of caffeine. Display cases and shelves are already bursting with caffeinated products including mints, chewing gum, sunflower seeds, lollipops, chocolate covered coffee beans, soap, lip balm, and so much more. If you can't find the caffeinated product you seek, just ask and we're sure Mr. Cohen can find it! For those who have already felt the caffeine rush and are looking to fill their stomachs, Caffeination will also offer breakfast and lunch. For breakfast, the staff will serve up egg and cheese with bacon and ham on focaccia, whole wheat, sourdough, or a bagel, as well as fresh-baked muffins or bagels with cream cheese. At lunchtime, options include scrumptious chicken roma paninnis, roasted peppers or tomatoes with mozzarella, grilled chicken, veggie wraps, and a variety of salads. And, for all the sweet tooths out there, the shop will always have plenty of cakes, cookies, pies, and pastries to satisfy you. Or try one of the frappes (espresso or non-espresso) - made with real ice cream!

Way to go Mitch. I would definately love to stop in this place. :-)

The old EB location gets an update

Driving by good ol' 931 South Matlack Street recently I noticed construction on the old EB building. First there was just a lot of material going in and out the warehouse bays, presumably construction inside the warehouse area. (Maybe with cleanup of the hydraulic oil slicks I left while using the old scissor lift to remove the last of the wireless access points from the warehosue rafters...) More recently there has been construction ouside the building, in the side walkway area. New sinage is up out front too. A few pictures I grabbed...

The above were taken from the area of the old front door. Looks like the new owners are installing an elevator to get between floors. Would have been a great asset to have when we did the computer room move as a part of the phase-2 expansion!

View from the upper lot. Looks like there may be space for a stairwell behind the elevator shaft. Nice bridge to the upper lot. I assume they'll be busting through the brick wall to the 2nd level once exterior construction is done.

I miss the days when it still read "Electronics Boutique." Spaz is still across the street, although I think they may be moving to a new location on Rt 3 soon.

The Matlack Street/US-202 intesection most of us would see at least twice a day. If you look closely you can see that Kelly's Sports still has their holiday decorations up on the side of the building.

Hope all is well for everyone and happy new year!

-Craig
